When visiting Universal Studios, or any major theme park, the first thing we all do is make sure we plan for our favorite rides and must-see attractions. Whether you start with high-energy, intense rides or take a calmer ride-hopping approach, we're going to give you the 10 best Universal Studios Hollywood rides that you simply cannot miss.


But first, make sure you schedule your trip within Universal Studios Hollywood's hours (typically 9:00 am to 6:00 pm with summer months having longer hours than the winter months). All the rides at Universal Studios Hollywood operate for the length of the park's hours.


You are also going to want to check the Universal Studios Hollywood weather conditions to make sure the park isn't closed for the day. Make sure to check the Universal Studios' weather before you head out. In harsher weather conditions the rides located outside are likely to close.

Finally, Universal Studios parking comes at three main rates; General Parking ($30), Preferred Parking ($50), and Front Gate Parking ($70). These are the rates for parking before 5 pm. If you are headed to Universal Citywalk for an evening out, parking prices dip after 5 pm, with general parking at $10 and preferred for $20. Be advised, these rates are likely to change with certain special events. There are also valet parking options and a $5 general parking special offer when you show proof of a movie ticket purchase with your parking receipt.


Bonus Tip: The Universal Studios map is your best friend on your trip, especially if you are a tourist. There are certain rides located closer to parking and others at the far end of the park. Planning ahead can make your theme park adventure much easier.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is a part of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It's located in Hogwart Castle. This ride takes you on a series of twists and turns, as many as the films. It's a physical dark room ride combined with virtual 3D screens that mimics a thrill ride. It is an immersive and unforgettable experience from beginning to end for both Potter's biggest fans and everyone else. It's located indoors so it is a great ride when the weather at Universal Studios is not so ideal.


Jurassic World The Ride

This ride is sure to give you a fright. This dark ride takes you on what seems to be a peaceful exhibition of dinosaurs within enclosures. The ride picks up when a few of these dinosaurs break through their courses. on your rush to safety, you experience a host of turns and drops. This ride is a great way to experience a bit of the Jurassic Park films we all grew up with making it one of the best things to do in Los Angeles overall. Be prepared, you will get splashed on your way out.


The Simpsons Ride

This Simpsons motion simulator ride is a funny, immersive experience. You will experience "a ride in a ride" as you are taken into Springfield to board the newest, most extreme coaster in Krustyland. All is well until the ride is hijacked by Krusty the clown's nemesis, Sideshow Bob. Keep your eyes peeled for cameos as you try to make it to safety.


Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride

Revenge of The Mummy is a thrilling experience that captures the creepy essence of the film. The ride is full of artifacts, creatures, and scenes all taken from the famous movie. One of the only backward, indoor coasters in the world.


The Universal Studio Tour Tram

It would be a crime to visit Universal Studios and not go on the Universal Studio Tour. This classic, old-timey tram stops at various iconic and nostalgia-inducing locations. This studio tour is different from any other ride at Universal because it thrills your mind more than anything. It is constantly updated with new sets or experiences, so whether you see the house from Psycho or the reenactment of the shark attack in Jaws, you'll feel an unforgettable wave of nostalgia and immersion.


WaterWorld

Waterworld is more of a stunt show than a ride. It has the storyline, action, and excitement of a ride, and also a high probability to be soaked in water. Proclaimed as Universal's #1 show of all time, there are must-see pyrotechnics, stunts, and lots and lots of water.


Transformers: The Ride 3D

One of Universal's premier attractions, this 3D ride is an unforgettable experience as you attempt to escape destruction from the Decepticons. It is an experience you won't forget whether you are a fan of the Transformers franchise or don't know what is Optimus Prime. This ride is located furthest from the parking lot so keep that in mind when planning.


Flight of the Hippogriff

This short family-friendly coaster takes you on the experience of riding a Hippogriff. It has spirals and dives all with views of the other attractions of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This ride, along with the many other attractions in Potter-world, is located closest to Universal studios parking. It's a great mini-thrill ride for the kids.


Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem

Everyone loves the minions. This high-definition ride will make you love them more. Mayhem is a fitting word as this ride navigates the chaotic and funny lives of the minions alongside the beloved movie characters we saw on the big screen. This is a great attraction if you want some laughter with your thrill-seeking and it is one of the most fun things to do in LA with kids.


The Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash

Off The Leash is one of the calmer rides at Universal. It is loved for the world it's created for you to be a part of. If you loved the comedic, vibrant energy of the film you'll love this ride. While you enjoy this little bite of NYC in LA, look for cameos of your favorite characters.
